Very little is known about quartz patches in the Overberg. These are unique islands of white quartz pebbles found in Shale and Silcrete Renosterveld.

Overberg Renosterveld Conservation Trust launches new quartz patch interpretive walking trail
The Overberg Renosterveld Conservation Trust is now launching a new interpreted walking trail on the Haarwegskloof Reserve for those visitors who wish to learn more about the unique biodiversity conserved here. The trail showcases the unique biodiversity and flora of the quartz patches of the eastern Rûens.

Once a year, this ‘Cinderella’ renosterveld landscape transforms into a botanical wonderland. This spring bloom peaks from early August to early October and is always over far too quickly.
