Year 2 post fire: How the Renosterveld is responding
Since the burns the ORCT and the respective landowners have erected stock fencing to protect the veld – because it’s such a crucial time for the growth.

Every spring, the Overberg Renosterveld Conservation Trust team spends as much time as they can in the field
The Sout Rivier (or Salt River) is no more than a rivulet effortlessly meandering through the gentle rolling Overberg hills, before its brackish water drains 60km south into the De Hoop Vlei.
It’s no secret that spring and Renosterveld go hand in hand. Come springtime, the incredible diversity of geophytes (or those plants with underground storage organs) is clear to see, as Renosterveld shows off her brilliant colours, shapes and sizes.
Observing pollinators is a task that requires quiet patience, while spending many hours in the Renosterveld sitting with flowers in bloom watching and waiting
It has been an eventful year for the ORCT – as it should be, given that this is a particularly special year for us! Not only are we celebrating a decade of being in existence and conserving Renosterveld, we are also celebrating some exciting achievements for 2022!
