Here, experts in their fields, from well-known photographers and ecologists, to chefs and artists, will offer immersive, hands-on classes.
Over two days, enjoy getting in touch with the wise and the wild: Ancient and modern wisdoms connected to your hobbies and lifestyles, all on our wild, pristine and peaceful reserve. Delve into the theory on topics such as birding and photography, wildlife tracking, art, cuisine and eco-printing, and more. And then practise your new-found skills on site.
The courses are fully catered by the amazing Dee Robinson of TuckTuckZA, Napier. Accommodation is included (either in our research centre or guest house on the reserve) on a first-come, first-served basis, while camping options can be made available for courses that can take more bookings.

You’re invited to experience the glory of renosterveld over a weekend in spring with the knowledgeable and experienced ORT team. We’ll go birding, do active searches, undertake small-mammal trapping and sweep netting, and of course experience renosterveld in full bloom. All meals are included, in the company of like-minded nature lovers. Cost: R3500 per person or R3100 per person sharing.
Nelis will show you how to identify animals tracks during a guided walk through Haarwegskloof, and then make casts of the tracks. He will then guide you in creating your own, unique masterpiece: A handmade ceramic artwork, where various elements including the animal tracks are incorporated into the design. Many professionals in the conservation sector, whether they are scientists, journalists, or conservators, are experiencing an overwhelming sense of anxiety and grief associated with biodiversity loss and climate change. In this retreat, therapist Mallorie Lee will guide us through the processes for dealing with eco-anxiety, while assisting us with developing the tools with which to manage it and avoid burning out.
