Come for the day, or spend a night or three in our Renosterveld Reserve. Take leisurely walks, or just relax in this historic area.

There are a number of reasons to visit: the plant life (our reserve has over 500 plant species), the rich bird life (over 80 birds), and of course the mammals, amphibians, reptiles and invertebrates that occur here. We even provide a sanctuary to three of the Little Five (the Elephant shrew, the Ant lion and the Rhinoceros beetle).

We’re also close to De Hoop Nature Reserve and you can also take a trip down to visit our partners at Sijnn Wines on the Breede River at Malgas, where they are also conserving Renosterveld. Rest, relax, and breathe in the fresh veld air!

A guided tour of the reserve is available on request for an extra R100 per person, but must be pre-booked to confirm availability of guide.

“Truly a place where holistic conservation ecotourism takes place. Phenomenal flowers, and freedom to walk and experience nature at your own pace. Comfortable, good quality for your money accommodation and service!”

We offer two options for staying at the Renosterveld Reserve

We offer a peaceful, relaxing stay in the Renosterveld at our self-catering accommodation in the Old Dairy – beautifully renovated to accommodate between two and six people.

And we have rustic accommodation at our Research & Visitor Centre, with single beds and bunks beds, an open-plan fully-equipped kitchen, and two bathrooms. And don’t forget our braai area, for a beautiful evening in the Renosterveld.

THE OLD DAIRY SELF-CATERING ACCOMMODATION

Stay in this beautiful, farm-style self-catering accommodation – surrounded by rich Renosterveld. The house has three bedrooms (two doubles and one twin), with two shared bathrooms (with two showers).

Why we love it here?

There’s the tranquility of the Renosterveld-covered valleys and hills, the immense nature, and the chance to see conservation in action. And we love it here because of the cultural history of the buildings. This historic building used to be used as the old milking shed, with the walls originally built from bricks and mud.

Facilities

  • Indoor Fireplace
  • Braai/Barbeque

RESEARCH AND VISITOR CENTRE SELF-CATERING ACCOMMODATION

The house is also used as a base for students and collaborative researchers undertaking Renosterveld research in the Overberg. Three bedrooms available (Please bring your own bedding): Bedroom 1: 2 single beds. Bedrooms 2 & 3: 6 beds each in the form of three sets of bunk beds in each room (i.e. can sleep 12 in total).

    Why we love it here?

This is the original homestead (over 100 years old), which was converted to a Research and Visitor Centre in 2014. It is available for larger groups who are looking for a rustic, farm-style experience (who may have a slightly smaller budget). The house has bunk beds and single beds, a small herbarium (which we are slowly building up) and a library within a large and comfortable workspace.

    Facilities

    • Two separate bathrooms
    • Fully equipped kitchen
    • Braai and indoor fire

As a Getaway it is superb. As a place to be surrounded by nature it is grand. The facilities and the accommodation are of the best available and I was delighted by the atmosphere. The peace and quiet offered is amazing.”

“I have the great fortune of being involved in wonderful conservation projects in the United States and all around the world, but I consider the work of OCLT to be the most important – OCLT’s work to conserve a highly diverse and endangered ecosystem that is globally outstanding and a unique World Heritage Site is truly amazing – but equally amazing is how they involve local communities and farmers to pitch in and work together hand in hand to make magic happen.”  David Houghton
